Celebrating Public Service Recognition Week

5/6/2014

0 Comments

This is Public Service Recognition week. I hope you will join me in celebrating all the wonderful work our state and county human services staff do to keep kids safe and families healthy. This is a time to reflect and be proud of the difference our employees make in the lives of Coloradans. We work with children and families in crisis and as a result it can sometimes feel like we, too, are in crisis. But, I encourage you to consider the number of children that you have served over the last year and the difference you have made in their lives.
Last fiscal year, 37,524 children in Colorado were in an open involvement with child welfare services.  You have helped these children and their families become the successes that are demonstrated in so many of our reports. These children may never thank you for what you have done for them, but, we thank you for all that you do for Colorado's most vulnerable children, youth and families.

Below are this week's data updates:

GOAL: Timeliness of Assessment Closure: 90%
Status: Colorado state performance:
87.3%

Timeliness of Assessment Closure measure performance decreased this week from 87.6% last week to 87.3% this week, with 37 of the 64 Colorado counties achieving the goal of closing 90% of assessments of all concerns of suspected child abuse or neglect within 60 days.

This week Arapahoe, Larimer, Logan, and Montezuma improved on the measure:
  • Arapahoe improved from 58.1% last week to 64.7% this week;
  • Larimer improved from 79.7% last week to 81.8% this week;
  • Logan improved from 86.4% last week to 89.5% this week; and
  • Montezuma improved from 60.0% last week to 75.0% this week.

We would also like to recognize the staff in Garfield, Jefferson and Montrose counties for significantly reducing backlog of overdue assessments. Thankfully, our statewide backlog of overdue assessments decreased slightly to 3.1%.

Once again, thank you to all County Human Service Directors, supervisors and staff for all that you do for Colorado's most vulnerable children, youth and families.

All my best,
