CDHS Community Performance Update

4/18/2014

I am so proud that we have launched this new public website to share county child welfare data. Colorado is one of only a few states to show child welfare data through an interactive site.  We are also one of 11 states that have been working with the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare to collect real-time Results Oriented Management reports, better known as ROM reports, to track progress and measure success. Colorado is the first of this group working with KU to offer reports to the public in this way.

Through this weekly update we will share the same data and county strategies for success that we have been sharing with county partners for more than a year.
By sharing this information throughout the state we have seen dramatic improvement on many of our C-Stat measures focused on improving outcomes for children, youth and families.

For example, when we first started focusing on Timeliness of Assessment Closure approximately 50% of assessments of all concerns of suspected child abuse or neglect were closed within 60 days. Today, we've nearly reached our statewide performance goal of 90%.

This is but one of many aspects of the child welfare system that we monitors closely and is available on the CDHS Community Performance Center website.

Data and Outcomes Updates

Below are this week's data updates:

GOAL: Timeliness of Assessment Closure: 90%
Status: Colorado state performance: 89.1%

Timeliness of Assessment Closure measure performance continues to improve up from 89% last week to 89.1% this week, with 41 of the 64 Colorado counties achieving the goal of closing 90% of assessments of all concerns of suspected child abuse or neglect within 60 days.

This week Boulder, Huerfano, Montezuma, and Routt counties improved on the measure:
  • Boulder improved from 64.2 % last week to 70.8% this week;
  • Huerfano improved from 85.7% last week to 100% this week;
  •  Montezuma improved from 62.5% last week to 73.3% this week; and
  • Routt improved from 76.5% last week to 80.0% this week;
Our backlog of overdue assessments remained constant at 3.6%, however, we would like to recognize Garfield, Montezuma, Montrose, and Route counties for significantly decreasing case backlog on this measure.

Thank you to all County Directors, and your staff, for all that you do for Colorado's most vulnerable children, youth and families.

All my best,
